Yay!

I hardly ever visit(ed) YouTube, but I was glad to hear that Joost was emerging. I need my occasional 80s-music-video fix, and my understanding is that Joost will have lots of it, from all the stuff Viacom yanked off of YouTube.

I do wonder if the YouTube buy will go down as (a) the first "real" mistake that Google made, or (b) a Google win despit early challenges or (c) something else.

I also wonder about the future of Joost and YouTube sharing a similar space. Will there be room for both?

Marginally related: I also wonder when I'll start hearing "juiced" in my head when I read "Joost," instead of the current "yost" (as in the Dutch pronunciation of their men's first name that shares the same spelling).

Well, for one, I already was calling it "Juiced". ;)

For another, Google has made a couple of mistakes already, the thing is, they make so much $$ on paid search, even if YouTube turns out to be a mistake, I don't think it's going to matter. Besides, I would expect Google to buy Joost right before it takes off.

Also, I expect to see YouTube as a channel in Joost if they know what is good for them.

The difference is that YouTube is an aggregation point, Joost is a distribution channel. They can work together if they choose to.

The thing that is exciting about Joost is the prospect of getting the A+ content in there from Fox, ABC, NBC and the like.

If they can pull that off, you will see the same thing happen to broadcast/cable/satellite TV that happened to the Telcos when VOIP hit the market.
